About Christopher: Christopher is pursuing a BBA in Management Information Systems from the Terry College of Business. Last summer, he worked as a process improvement intern for McKesson Provider Technologies. His MIS interests include project management, process improvement, and systems analysis and design. Christopher is employed by UGA Enterprise IT Services (the IT arm of UGA headed by the CIO/Associate Provost) where he works within Planning and Decision Support. He also works within the MIS department as a MIST 2090 TA. He is an initiated brother within Sigma Nu Fraternity, where he is currently serving on the Executive Council as Recorder. Originally from Savannah, GA- his other interests include running, guitar, hockey, and watching football.
My experience within the Society for Management Information Systems (SMIS) has expanded my network with MIS students and prospective employers. Last semester, SMIS provided me with the opportunity to lead an IT research project committee whose findings will be influencing a real-world IT project for UGA and has opened doors to many more opportunities. I encourage MIS students of all levels to come to one of the weekly SMIS meetings (named one of the best-run student organizations by the UGA Career Center) to find out how it can positively impact your career development.

About Tyler: Tyler is a junior Honors student, currently pursuing a BBA in Management Information Systems from the Terry College of Business and a certificate in Computer Science. He spent the past summer interning as an Application Analyst for McKesson Provider Technologies, where he worked on collaboration and education processes within a support division. In addition to SMIS, he is involved as a student representative of the MIS Advisory Board, a member of the Deer Run Fellows Program, works with the Global Text Project and is a student researcher for the Green IS & Energy Informatics Project. During the school year, he works for the UGA Golf Course and a local oral surgeon providing technical support and web development services. He also enjoys outdoor activities, golf, working out, and spending time with friends and family.
SMIS is by far the most beneficial student run organizations to be involved with on campus. It gives you the ability to get your foot in the door with many companies for potential internship and career opportunities. I would encourage every MIS major to join as well as all interested other majors.

About Jordan: Jordan is pursuing a BBA in Management Information Systems from the Terry College of Business. This summer he will be doing an IMLP internship with GE in their Aviation Division in Cincinnati, Ohio. His MIS interest includes business process management and project management. During the school year, he is a mentor for the Friends For Life Mentoring Program in Athens, GA. His hometown of Gainesville, GA is where he has lived his all life. His other interest include hunting, fishing, playing intramural sports, spending time with friends and family, and flying as he is currently pursuing his private pilot license.
SMIS allowed me to see what opportunities and careers are out there for me as a MIS major. It has opened so many doors for me personally, and I would encourage anyone who is getting into or is in the MIS major to become involved in SMIS and see the incredible opportunities that are out there.

About JP: JP is pursuing a BBA in Management Information Systems as well as a Certificate in Computing. He was born in Annapolis, Maryland, grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and currently lives in Suwanee, GA. This past summer, he obtained his real estate license. He hopes to get an internship in an IT related field this upcoming summer and expectes to graduate May 2011. His interests include running, working out, sports, hanging out with friends and family, the lake, and the beach.
It's amazing what SMIS has done and will continue to do by bringing students and companies together. I have only been a part of the program for a semester and already I have significantly improved my network of fellow MIS students, and possible future employers. It is by far the best tool a student could hope for, and puts all MIS majors far ahead of the game when the time for internship and full time job recruiting comes around.

About Xiaoling: Xiaoling Huang is a junior Honors student pursuing a double major in Accounting and MIS from the Terry College of Business. Last summer, she studied abroad in China, focusing on the effects of globalization and IT. This summer, she plans to participate in a directed studies program in China with an emphasis in both Accounting and MIS. In addition to SMIS, she is also involved with the Asian Children Mentoring Program, National Association of Black Accountants, Global Text Project, Deer Run Fellows Program, and chairs Terry's Pre-Business Expo. In her spare time, she loves to travel, play badminton, listen to music, watch NCIS, and spend time with family and friends.
SMIS is one of the most beneficial organizations on campus. It gives students the opportunity to interact with professionals on a weekly basis, learn about the many opportunities open to MIS graduates, and build lasting relationships. SMIS was the first organization I joined, and it showed me the versatility of the MIS major and business majors in general. I strongly encourage all majors to become a part of SMIS.

About Tomas: Tomas Montilla is pursuing a BBA in Management Information Systems from the Terry College of Business. Last summer he interned with the IT department of Universal de Seguros, the largest insurance company in the Dominican Republic, where he focused on Database Management and Application Development with SQL. He is a member of the Sigma Alpha Lambda and Alpha Lambda Delta honors societies. Upon graduation, Tomas expects to find a position in the field of IT consulting. His many interests include macroeconomics, skiing, watching college football, being an amateur film critic, and learning about the wonders of the cosmos.
SMIS is the one thing that sets the UGA's Management Information Systems program apart from the rest. It is one of the best student run organizations on campus and a pioneer among its peers in the Terry College of Business. The organization will provide you with an unparalleled amount of opportunities to improve your communication skills with leaders in the IT field, the chance to learn from the experiences of fellow members, and invaluable networking tools that will further your career development.

About Jade: Jade is currently a junior pursuing her BBA in Management Information Systems. Last summer she worked as an Information Technology Intern for the United States Department of Agriculture. Working with UGA, Jade helps organize and facilitate monthly service projects to help get students involved in the community. Originally from Detroit, MI, her interests include running, working out, reading, and anything to do with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
SMIS has been one of the most beneficial organizations that I have been involved in. By networking with different company representatives I have not only gained more confidence, but I have also been able to get a glimpse of various potential careers I could find with a degree in MIS. I would recommend that everyone join, get involved, and reap the benefits of such a well run organization.

About Victoria: Victoria is currently pursuing a BBA in Management Information Systems from the Terry College of Business and a Certificate of Disability Studies. She will be spending the summer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida interning at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she will be working with the Systems and Process Assurance team. In addition to SMIS, Victoria is a MIST 2090 TA, and she currently works for Magnolia Events and Planning in Atlanta. Victoria also enjoys swimming, running, spending time with her friends, family, and her cat "Pootie."
SMIS has opened many doors for me and has been one of my most positive experiences at UGA. It gave me a sense of direction and helped me to build relationships with many influential people. I encourage others to join SMIS and participate not only for career development but for the relationships you will build among your peers. Becoming an active member will open the door to a world of opportunities.

About Daniel: Daniel is currently a junior pursuing a BBA in Management Information System from the Terry College of Business. When he is not studying, he spends his time volunteering with the Athens Area Humane Society by doing clerical work. Daniel's previous work experience includes working at the YMCA as a fitness trainer and floor manager, which involved overseeing and managing a database with over 1,500 members. Daniel one day hopes to obtain an internship and a job working as an IT consultant. Daniel's interests include sports, traveling, working out, and spending time with friends and family.
SMIS is one of the most successful organizations on campus. This organization gives students a great way to learn about future MIS career paths. SMIS has given me the opportunity to network with industry leaders and representatives. It has also enhanced my communication skills and made me feel more confident when meeting prospective employers. I would encourage anyone who wants to be more involved within the MIS major to join SMIS and take advantage of the incredible opportunities the University of Georgia and SMIS has to offer.

About Tom: Tom is pursuing a B.B.A. in Management Information Systems from the Terry College of Business as well as an A.B. in Sociology from the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. During the school year, he works with Relay for Life on the "Spirit of Relay" Committee and serves as an Advisor/Advocate for University Judiciary. Tom also interns with Judge Steve Jones at the Athens Courthouse, and works with the MIS Department as a Teacher's Assistant for MIST 2090. Before becoming a Georgia Bulldog, Tom lived in Marietta, GA, with his parents and older sister. His interests include tennis, football, running, philosophy, and politics. Tom plans to attend law school and use his legal and IT background in his future career as a corporate attorney.
SMIS is one of the most effective organizations at the University of Georgia as it continues to bring together the MIS student body as well as connect the MIS majors with employers from some of the top companies in the country. I have been incredibly surprised with the positive impact that this organization has had in the attainment of internships and full time job offers to its members. Meetings are run efficiently and maximize the time that companies can interact with students. I would recommend SMIS to students of all majors who plan on having a career in the business sector.
